Abstract

Discussing approaches to the photograph collection in the Colijn archives of the Vrije Universiteit's Historical Documentation Centre (HDC). Discussion focuses on two pictures, a touristic rustic photograph of Borobudur around 1900, and an 'action photograph' of probably the surrender in 1903 of Panglima Polem, an important leader of the armed resistance in Aceh against the Dutch during the Aceh War. The piece pleas for a systematic analysis of Colijns photographs in the HDC-collection as an important aspect of biographical research on Colijn.
